Well Muffins, I am back to writing. Sorry for the unexplained absence. These past few weeks have flown by due to a personal tragedy experienced in my little community. A death of a person held very dear by many was the event and it has got me thinking that we just don’t do enough to discuss the things that mean the most when we have the chance to do so.
I have recently been made aware of a campaign in California that encourages people to say hello to one another. It doesn’t matter if they know one another; it is simply the act of being gracious to one another and taking the time to greet one another in a civil manner.
I started thinking about all the times when I have allowed road rage to creep into my world (I admit it, I am a bitch on wheels). I, for one, can make a conscious effort to try to breathe deep the next time someone cuts me off. It should help if I just think back to how out of sorts and preoccupied behind the wheel I was shortly after the tragedy. Maybe the offender is just having a really rough day.
The next time I see someone who looks like they are really struggling, a simple hello from a stranger may well be the ticket to cheer them. Maybe, if we all took the time to do one more good deed each day, we could reverse the trend of our society become more and more me-centered and regain a stronger sense of community.
I am very saddened by the loss of my friend. Moreover, I am saddened that in the world today we still are arguing over things like whether being Gay is bad and who can marry. These things, among many others, contribute (in my opinion) to our closing ourselves off to one another. The more separatist we become, the harder it is to just enjoy each other’s company. Isn’t it time for each and every one of us to stop our own part in carrying forth ignorance and hatred.
Here’s an idea. Let’s all take a collective breath, slow down, allow someone to pass and say hello to strangers. Would it really be so tough to be kind?
My hope for each of you today is that you find some time for yourself, and you have the opportunity to make another person’s day a little bit brighter by crossing their path.
Peace and blessings dear ones.
