Fun with the Birkey

Today I stepped out after work with my dear friend Andy Birkey (AB). My that boy does have a following. He is quite well known and yet he does not allow celebrity to go to his head. I saw him engage brilliantly with many individuals (both mutual acquaintances and strangers). He treats everyone with respect and makes them feel appreciated. That is almost everyone. He does have a certain individual whom I will allow to remain nameless who has taken to bar stalking him.

I think this is a deplorable attempt to be around someone long after they have asked you to stay your distance. If an individual is out with friends and they are at the same establishment as their "stalker", what should protocol be? AB was at the bar long before the BAR STALKER (BS) arrived. BS got him in his sites and then took opportunities to isolate others from the group as they went out for a cigarette or to the bathroom and would engage them. Then, assuming that he had an "in", would wander back to the group as if attached to the body of the returning friend much the same way a barnacle would to the underside of a boat.

What would you do readers? AB set a very clear expectation that he needed to be respected and that he was leaving the table. He also made it known that the individual needed to be gone before he would return. I reiterated the request to BS after he (AB) left. BS then became indignant, slammed his half-drunk beer in the middle of the table and stormed off.

I personally think the statement "NO MEANS NO" definitely applies here. My final words on this topic are that as our society becomes more flooded with tasks and demands we seem to be losing one very important social nicety - MANNERS.

BS - stop the BS and get yourself some (manners that is)!

That's all for now muffins...

Love, Peace and Good night
Margie
